Ingredients
Hamburger Steaks
- 1.3 pounds ground beef
- ¼ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp dried onion
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
Tuscan Sauce
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning
- 3 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 ½ cups heavy cream
- 3 cups spinach
- ½ cup sun-dried tomatoes, drained and chopped
- ¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Prepare the Hamburger Mixture: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, dried onion, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat to keep it tender.
- Form Patties: Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and roll them into balls. Using a spatula or burger press, flatten each ball into a patty approximately ¾ inch (2 cm) thick.
- Sear the Patties: Heat olive oil and unsalted butter over medium heat in a large nonstick skillet. Place the patties in the skillet and sear for 5 minutes on each side, until well browned and cooked through. Remove the patties onto a clean plate and set aside.
- Sauté Aromatics: In the same skillet, add diced yellow onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 2 minutes until the onion is translucent and fragrant.
- Make the Sauce: Stir in salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, and tomato paste. Pour in the heavy cream and add the spinach. Stir occasionally until the spinach wilts and the sauce combines smoothly.
- Add Sun-dried Tomatoes and Cheese: Mix in the chopped sun-dried tomatoes and grated Parmesan cheese. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer to meld the flavors.
- Simmer Patties in Sauce: Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, nestling them into the sauce. Let them simmer for 5 minutes to absorb the flavors and heat through.
- Serve: Once the steaks are cooked and the sauce has thickened slightly, serve immediately and enjoy this rich, creamy Tuscan dish.
Notes
- For a leaner option, use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef.
- If you prefer, fresh garlic and onions can be substituted with garlic and onion powder for quicker prep, but fresh ingredients add more flavor.
- Sun-dried tomatoes packed in oil add extra richness, but drain well to avoid excess oil in the sauce.
- This dish pairs well with mashed potatoes, pasta, or crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop.
