Description

These Smash Burger Tacos, inspired by the iconic Big Mac, combine the juicy, crispy goodness of smashed ground beef patties with melty cheese and classic burger toppings wrapped in soft flour tortillas. A fun and flavorful twist on traditional tacos that’s quick to prepare and perfect for a casual meal.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef, 80/20 fat ratio
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 (6-inch) small flour tortillas
  • 6 slices American cheese, or sliced cheese of choice

Toppings

  • Shredded lettuce
  • Minced onion
  • Dill pickles
  • Burger sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and black pepper, mixing gently until just combined to avoid overworking the meat.
  2. Assemble the tacos: Lay the tortillas flat on parchment paper or a sheet pan. Divide the meat mixture evenly onto each tortilla and press it into a thin, even layer covering the entire surface of each tortilla. Optionally, press a thin layer of minced onion on top of the beef if you enjoy grilled onions.
  3. Preheat the skillet: Heat a skillet over high heat until very hot and lightly brush it with oil. The pan should be smoking hot to achieve a good sear on the meat.
  4. Cook the beef: Transfer the tortillas beef-side down onto the hot skillet. Use a spatula to smash and flatten the meat further against the skillet. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes until nicely browned and crispy.
  5. Flip and melt cheese: Carefully flip the tacos, then immediately top each with a slice of American cheese. Cover the skillet with a lid for a few seconds to allow the cheese to melt thoroughly.
  6. Finish and serve: Remove the tacos from the skillet. Top each with shredded lettuce, minced onions, dill pickles, and a generous drizzle of burger sauce. Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • For best results, consume the Smashburger tacos immediately after cooking to enjoy their crispy texture.
  • If storing leftovers, place the tacos in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat leftovers in an air fryer, oven, or on the stovetop for a few minutes; reheating in an air fryer will provide the crispiest tortilla texture.
  • Feel free to customize the toppings or sauces to your taste for added variety.
