Description

Revel Bars are delicious layered dessert bars featuring a buttery oat and brown sugar cookie base, topped with a rich and creamy chocolate fudge filling, and finished with a crumbly oat dough topping. These bars offer a delightful combination of textures and flavors, making them perfect for a sweet snack or dessert.

Ingredients

Chocolate Fudge Layer

  • 1 (12 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 (15 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cups pecans (optional)

Oat Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups light brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups quick oats

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13 inch casserole dish by lining it with parchment paper or non-stick foil. Set aside.
  2. Make Chocolate Fudge Mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and 3 tablespoons of butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and pecans if using. Set this chocolate fudge filling aside.
  3. Prepare Oat Cookie Dough: In a mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup butter and 2 cups light brown sugar until creamy. Add 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, mixing well and scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  4. Add Dry Ingredients: Mix in 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1 teaspoon salt. Then add 1 cup all-purpose flour and 1 cup quick oats, mixing thoroughly. Next, add the remaining 1 1/2 cups flour followed by the remaining 1 cup quick oats, mixing after each addition until the dough is stiff and sticky.
  5. Layer the Bars: Press one-third of the dough firmly into the bottom of your prepared casserole dish to form the base layer. Carefully pour the chocolate fudge mixture evenly over the dough base. Then, crumble and sprinkle the remaining dough over the top of the fudge filling as a topping.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown but not burnt. Note that your oven may require the full 25 minutes.
  7. Cool and Cut: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, lift them out using the parchment paper edges and cut into 1 1/2 inch bars. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Using parchment paper or non-stick foil helps to easily remove the bars from the pan after baking.
  • Optional pecans add a nice crunch and nutty flavor to the chocolate fudge layer.
  • Make sure not to overbake; golden brown edges indicate they are ready.
  • Bars are best served at room temperature once cooled.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
