Description

Moose Tracks Ice Cream is a decadent, creamy vanilla ice cream packed with rich peanut butter cups and swirls of thick fudge. This homemade version combines smooth, sweet vanilla base with crunchy, chocolate peanut butter candies and luscious fudge ribbons to create a classic and irresistible frozen dessert perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Ice Cream Base

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

Add-ins

  • 1 cup peanut butter cups, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup fudge sauce or hot fudge, slightly warmed for swirling

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ice Cream Base: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
  2. Chill Mixture: Cover the bowl and refrigerate the ice cream base for at least 2 hours or overnight. This chilling step ensures a richer and creamier texture when churned.
  3. Churn Ice Cream: Pour the chilled ice cream base into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions, typically about 20-25 minutes until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
  4. Incorporate Add-ins and Fudge: Transfer a third of the churned ice cream to a freezer-safe container. Drizzle one-third of the warmed fudge sauce over it, then sprinkle some chopped peanut butter cups. Repeat layering two more times, ending with fudge and peanut butter cups on top. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the fudge throughout the ice cream without overmixing.
  5. Freeze to Set: Cover the container with a lid or plastic wrap and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm enough to scoop.
  6. Serve: Remove from freezer about 5 minutes before serving to soften slightly, scoop generously, and enjoy your homemade Moose Tracks Ice Cream!

Notes

  • For best texture, do not skip chilling the ice cream base before churning.
  • If you don’t have an ice cream maker, pour the mixture into a shallow container and freeze, stirring vigorously every 30 minutes until creamy.
  • Use good quality peanut butter cups for the best taste and texture contrast.
  • Store leftover Moose Tracks ice cream in an airtight container to avoid freezer burn.
  • Adjust fudge quantity to your preference for more or less chocolate swirl.
