Description
Learn how to make light and fluffy whipped coconut cream using chilled full-fat coconut milk or coconut cream, sweetened naturally with maple syrup and flavored with vanilla. This dairy-free alternative is perfect for frosting cakes, cupcakes, or as a delicious topping for desserts.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 can (14 oz) full-fat coconut milk or coconut cream, chilled
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or other sugar-free sweetener, to taste
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Flavorings
- Other flavor extracts (such as almond or peppermint)
- Ground spices (like cinnamon)
- Cocoa powder
Instructions
- Chill the Coconut Milk: Place the can of coconut milk or coconut cream in the refrigerator and chill it for 1 to 3 days to allow the cream to separate and harden at the top.
- Prepare Mixing Equipment: About 30 minutes before whipping, chill a mixing bowl and the beaters of your electric mixer in the refrigerator to help keep the coconut cream cold and stable while whipping.
- Scoop Out the Cream: Open the chilled can carefully without shaking. Scoop out only the hardened coconut cream that has separated on top into your chilled bowl. Set aside the remaining clear coconut water for other uses like smoothies or baking.
- Whip the Coconut Cream: Using a hand mixer, whip the coconut cream along with the maple syrup, vanilla extract, and any optional flavorings until the mixture becomes light, fluffy, and stable enough to hold peaks.
- Use the Whipped Cream: The whipped coconut cream is now ready to frost cakes, cupcakes, or to be piped into delicate swirls using a chilled pastry bag and piping tip. Enjoy as a dairy-free, vegan-friendly topping for your favorite desserts.
Notes
- For best results, use brands of coconut milk or cream that list only coconut and water as ingredients to ensure proper cream separation.
- Some brands may not separate properly, so whisking might not work if the cream and water don’t separate.
- The leftover coconut water can be saved and used in smoothies, baking recipes, or discarded if not needed.
