Description
Crispy and flavorful Homemade Greek Fries made with Yukon Gold potatoes, seasoned with oregano, dill, garlic powder, and topped with fresh parsley, red onion, feta cheese, and served with optional tzatziki, aioli, or lemon wedges for a Mediterranean twist.
Ingredients
Fries
- 4 large Yukon Gold Potatoes
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried dill
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Toppings
- 1/2 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 1 medium red onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- Tzatziki, aioli, or lemon wedges (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure it reaches the right temperature for baking the fries evenly.
- Prepare Potatoes: Wash the Yukon Gold potatoes thoroughly, keeping the skins on for added texture and nutrients. Cut them into 1/3-inch wide sticks, keeping the fries the same length as the potato for uniform baking.
- Soak Fries: Place the cut fries into a large bowl of cold water and soak for 10 to 15 minutes. This step helps remove excess starch and results in crispier fries. Drain and dry the potatoes thoroughly with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.
- Season Fries: Transfer the dried fries into a large mixing bowl. Add olive oil, salt, dried oregano, dried dill, black pepper, and garlic powder. Toss everything together until the fries are evenly coated with the seasoning.
- Arrange Fries for Baking: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Spread the fries out in a single even layer, ensuring they aren’t overcrowded for optimal crisping.
- Bake Fries: Bake the fries in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Carefully take them out and flip each fry to promote even browning. Return the fries to the oven and bake for an additional 6 to 8 minutes, or until the fries are crisp and golden brown.
- Add Toppings: Transfer the baked Greek fries to a serving plate. Sprinkle with finely chopped fresh parsley, red onion, and crumbled feta cheese for authentic Greek flavors.
- Serve: Serve the homemade Greek fries warm, optionally with side servings of tzatziki, aioli, or lemon wedges to enhance the taste experience.
Notes
- Soaking the fries in cold water removes starch and helps them crisp up better in the oven.
- Keep the skins on for extra texture and nutrients.
- Use parchment paper on the baking sheet to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Flip the fries halfway through baking for even cooking and golden color.
- Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
- Optional toppings like tzatziki and aioli add complementary flavors but can be omitted for a simpler side.
