Description

These Frosted Coffee Brownies combine rich, fudgy chocolate brownie base with a smooth, creamy coffee-flavored frosting. Perfect for coffee lovers looking for a decadent dessert that balances the robust flavors of coffee and cocoa in every bite.

Ingredients

Brownie Ingredients

  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons coffee extract or 1 tablespoon instant coffee
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Coffee Frosting Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon instant coffee granules
  • 2-4 tablespoon heavy whipping cream
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare an 8-inch baking dish by spraying it with non-stick spray or lining it with parchment paper and then spraying to prevent sticking.
  2. Melt Butter: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the stick of unsalted butter completely in the microwave.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir until all ingredients are well incorporated and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Add Coffee Flavor: Add 2 teaspoons of coffee extract or 1 tablespoon of instant coffee to the wet mixture and mix well to infuse coffee flavor into the batter.
  5. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the unsweetened cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder until evenly mixed.
  6. Mix Wet and Dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined, forming the brownie batter. Avoid overmixing to keep brownies tender.
  7. Bake the Brownies: Pour and spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs but no wet batter.
  8. Cool Brownies: Remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before frosting.
  9. Prepare Coffee Frosting: Dissolve 1 1/2 teaspoons of instant coffee granules in 2 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream; set aside. In a large bowl, beat 1/3 cup of unsalted butter until light and fluffy using a mixer.
  10. Add Powdered Sugar: Gradually add 2 cups of powdered sugar to the beaten butter, continuing to beat until well combined and smooth.
  11. Adjust Frosting Consistency: Slowly add the coffee-infused cream into the frosting mixture one tablespoon at a time, continuing to beat until the frosting reaches a spreadable consistency. Use 2 to 4 tablespoons depending on desired thickness.
  12. Frost the Brownies: Spread the prepared coffee frosting evenly over the cooled brownies. Slice into squares and serve.

Notes

  • Use parchment paper lining for easier removal and cleaner slicing.
  • Make sure brownies are completely cool before frosting to prevent melting the frosting.
  • Adjust coffee intensity by adding more or less coffee extract or instant coffee as preferred.
  • Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • For a stronger coffee flavor, you can substitute brewed strong coffee for the coffee extract in the batter.
