Ingredients
Chicken and Soup Base
- 1 large yellow onion, sliced
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 10.5 oz condensed cream of chicken soup
- 1 oz onion soup mix
- 2 cups beef broth
Toppings
- 6 – 8 slices provolone cheese
- ½ teaspoon thyme leaves
- 1 cup French’s crispy fried onions
Instructions
- Prepare the Crock Pot: Spray the inside of the Crock pot thoroughly with cooking spray to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Layer Onions: Spread the sliced yellow onions evenly across the bottom of the Crock pot to form a flavorful base.
- Add Chicken: Place the boneless, skinless chicken breasts gently on top of the layer of onions.
- Mix Soup and Broth: In a mixing bowl, combine the condensed cream of chicken soup, onion soup mix, and beef broth. Whisk the ingredients together until smooth and well blended.
- Pour Mixture: Pour the soup and broth mixture evenly over the chicken breasts in the Crock pot to coat them thoroughly.
- Cook on Low: Cover the Crock pot with the lid and set it to cook on LOW heat. Allow the chicken to cook undisturbed for 5 hours, letting the flavors meld and the chicken become tender.
- Add Cheese: After 5 hours, carefully place the provolone cheese slices on top of the chicken breasts within the Crock pot.
- Melt Cheese: Replace the lid and continue cooking on LOW for about 10 more minutes until the cheese is fully melted and gooey.
- Add Final Toppings: Remove the lid and sprinkle the thyme leaves and French’s crispy fried onions evenly over the top. Leave the Crock pot uncovered and cook on LOW for an additional 10 minutes to warm the crispy onions and integrate the flavors.
- Serve: Serve the French Onion Chicken hot, over cooked noodles or rice if desired, to soak up the delicious sauce and juices.
- Enjoy: Dig in and savor this easy, richly flavored Crock Pot French Onion Chicken!
