Description

This Crab Rangoon Dip is a creamy, cheesy blend of crab meat, cream cheese, and savory seasonings baked to bubbling perfection and topped with melted mozzarella. Served warm with crispy homemade wonton chips, it’s a delightful appetizer that captures all the flavor of classic crab rangoons in an easy-to-share dip form.

Ingredients

Dip Ingredients

  • 1 cup crab meat (imitation or canned lump crab meat, drained very well)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (at room temperature, 1 brick, 250 grams)
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 2 cloves garlic (finely minced)
  • 4 green onions (thinly sliced, white and green parts)
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese

Topping

  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • ½ cup Thai Sweet Chili Sauce (optional)

Wonton Chips

  • 24 wonton wraps (cut in half diagonally to create triangle chips)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying or brushing if air frying)

Garnish

  • 1 green onion (thinly sliced, white and green parts)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the dip.
  2. Prepare Cream Cheese: Ensure the cream cheese is at room temperature for easier mixing. If not, microwave it for 10 seconds until slightly softened.
  3. Mix Dip Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine crab meat, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, minced garlic, sliced green onions, soy sauce, sugar, and 1 cup mozzarella cheese. Mix thoroughly until evenly combined.
  4. Transfer and Top: Spread the dip mixture into an oven-safe baking dish (about 1 quart capacity or an 8”x8” to 9”x9” square or round dish). Sprinkle the reserved ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.
  5. Bake the Dip: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, until the dip is bubbling and the cheese on top is slightly browned and melted.
  6. Prepare Wonton Chips: While the dip bakes, cut wonton wrappers diagonally in half to form triangles. Choose your cooking method:
  7. Pan Frying Method: Heat enough vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat to coat the bottom. Fry wonton chips in batches for 20-25 seconds each side or until golden brown, bubbly, and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  8. Air Fryer Method: Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Lightly brush or spray wonton chips with oil and place in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Air fry for 4-5 minutes until golden, bubbly, and crispy. Remove chips carefully.
  9. Finish Dip: (Optional) Drizzle Thai sweet chili sauce over the baked dip and spread evenly with a spoon if desired.
  10. Serve: Garnish the dip with sliced green onions and serve warm with wonton chips or your preferred dippers such as tortilla chips, crackers, or veggie sticks. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Wonton Wraps can be found in the refrigerated section of grocery stores near tofu or salad dressings. If unavailable, egg roll or spring roll wrappers can be substituted.
  • The Thai Sweet Chili Sauce is optional and adds a sweet, mild spice to the dip but can be omitted based on preference.
  • Wonton Chips can be pan fried or air fried; both methods produce crisp, delicious chips.
  • This dip can also be served with a variety of dippers such as tortilla chips, crackers, pita, or fresh vegetable sticks for a versatile appetizer.
