Description
Cornflake Crack Crunch is a delicious, crunchy treat featuring cornflakes coated in a buttery brown sugar toffee, baked to perfection and dipped in rich melted chocolate. This sweet and salty dessert is perfect for an easy homemade snack or party favor, with an optional sprinkle of Maldon sea salt to enhance the flavor.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Salted Butter
- 1/2 cup Brown Sugar (packed)
- 3 cups Cornflakes Cereal (NOT heaping)
- 12 ounces Chocolate (for dipping)
- Maldon Sea Salt Flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Spread the cornflakes evenly in a single layer on the sheet to ensure even coating by the toffee.
- Make Toffee Mixture: In a saucepan, melt the salted butter and packed brown sugar over medium heat. Stir continuously until smooth and melted. Continue cooking for 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently to create a caramelized mixture.
- Coat Cornflakes: Carefully pour the hot butter-sugar mixture over the cornflakes. Gently stir with a heat-resistant spatula to ensure even coating. Shape the mixture into a compact rectangle by pressing the cornflakes together on the baking sheet.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the coated cornflakes for 9-12 minutes, checking halfway through. Use a spatula to press the edges towards the center if they start separating. Baking allows the toffee to caramelize and set properly.
- Cool and Break: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the mixture to cool completely. As it cools, it will harden. Once set, break into pieces of desired size.
- Melt Chocolate: Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat at 50% power in 30-second increments, stirring after each, until fully melted and smooth.
- Dip Cornflake Crack: Dip half of each cornflake piece into the melted chocolate and lay them on parchment paper to set. Optionally, sprinkle with Maldon sea salt flakes for a salty-sweet contrast.
Notes
- Measure cornflakes carefully; use slightly less than 3 cups if needed, avoiding heaping cups to prevent overly dense coating.
- Use high-quality chocolate for best taste and melting results.
- Ensure even spreading and layering of cornflakes to facilitate proper caramel coating.
- Press edges into the center during baking to keep the pieces cohesive.
- Allow chocolate to set completely before storing to avoid melting or sticking.
