Ingredients
Overnight Oats Base
- 1/2 mashed ripe banana
- 1/2 cup rolled oats, regular or gluten free
- 1/2 cup milk of choice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- Dash of sea salt
- 1 T ground flax (optional)
- 2 tsp 100% pure maple syrup
Toppings (Optional)
- 2 T chopped pecans or walnuts
- Sliced banana (for garnish)
- Additional nuts (for garnish)
Instructions
- Mash the Banana: In the bottom of a bowl or sealable jar, mash the ripe banana until smooth to form the base of your overnight oats.
- Combine Ingredients: Add rolled oats, milk of choice, chopped nuts, vanilla extract, cinnamon, sea salt, ground flax (if using), and maple syrup to the mashed banana. Stir well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- Refrigerate: Seal the container and refrigerate overnight or for a minimum of 4 hours to allow the oats to soak and flavors to meld.
- Serve: In the morning, give the oats a good stir. Serve either cold or warmed up, based on your preference.
- Garnish: Top with sliced banana or additional nuts if desired for extra texture and flavor.
Notes
- Adjust sweetness to your preference; the banana adds natural sweetness, and you can add more maple syrup if desired.
- Overnight oats with banana are best consumed within 3 days for optimal freshness.
- For batch preparation, add mashed banana only before serving if stored longer than 3 days to prevent browning and texture changes.
- Use dairy-free milk to make this recipe vegan-friendly.
- Ensure oats are certified gluten free if preparing for a gluten-free diet.
