Description

Delightfully moist and flavorful apple brownies combining the sweetness of apples with the crunch of toasted pecans and warm cinnamon spice. These chewy, golden-baked treats are an irresistible twist on classic brownies, perfect for a comforting dessert or snack.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, salted, room temperature (112 g)
  • 1 cup sugar (200 g)
  • 1 egg

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose flour (133 g)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Additional Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped apple pieces (100 g)
  • 1/2 cup toasted pecan pieces (53 g)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350℉ (175℃) to ensure it is ready for baking the apple brownies evenly.
  2. Toast Pecans: In a small pan over medium heat, toast the pecan pieces until fragrant, about 3-5 minutes. Stir constantly to prevent burning. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
  3. Prepare Apples: Peel, core, and chop the apples into small chunks about 1/2 inch in size, ensuring uniform pieces for even distribution in the batter.
  4. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a mixing bowl, cream the room temperature butter and sugar together until light, fluffy, and well combined. This will create a smooth base for your batter.
  5. Add Egg: Add the egg to the creamed butter and sugar mixture and mix again until the mixture is fluffy and homogenous.
  6. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon to evenly distribute the leavening and spices.
  7. Mix Dry Ingredients into Wet: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined to avoid overmixing which could make the brownies tough.
  8. Add Apples and Pecans: Fold in the chopped apples and toasted pecan pieces carefully; the batter will be sticky and moist because of the apples.
  9. Prepare Baking Dish: Butter an 8×8 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal and even baking.
  10. Bake: Pour the sticky batter into the prepared baking dish, gently pressing it down to create an even layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 45 minutes, checking for a golden brown crust. The baking time depends on your oven; it took about 35 minutes in this recipe.
  11. Cool: Once baked, remove the dish from the oven and allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes to set.
  12. Slice and Serve: Cut into squares and serve warm or at room temperature. They are delicious on their own or paired with a scoop of ice cream for an extra treat.

Notes

  • You can substitute salted butter with unsalted butter and add an additional pinch of salt if preferred.
  • Using fresh, crisp apples enhances the texture and flavor contrast in the brownies.
  • Be careful not to overmix the batter once the flour is added to keep brownies tender.
  • If you don’t have pecans, walnuts make a great substitute.
  • For easier cleanup and non-stick assurance, lining the baking dish with parchment paper is recommended.
  • Adjust baking time if using a different size baking dish; thinner batter will bake faster.
