Description
Air Fried Babybel Cheese offers a crispy, golden coating encasing creamy, melty cheese made effortlessly in the air fryer. This quick and fun appetizer is perfect for cheese lovers craving a crunchy snack without deep frying.
Ingredients
Cheese
- 1 package Babybel cheese
Coating
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, whisked
- 1 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
Other
- Olive oil spray, for spritzing
Instructions
- Freeze the cheese: Remove the wrapper and wax packaging from each piece of Babybel cheese. Place the cheese rounds into the freezer for at least 1 hour to firm up, which helps prevent the cheese from melting too quickly during air frying.
- Prepare the dredging stations: Set up three shallow bowls: one with all-purpose flour, one with whisked eggs, and one with Italian seasoned breadcrumbs. These will be used to coat the cheese in layers.
- Coat the cheese: Dip each frozen Babybel cheese round first into the flour, ensuring a light, even coating. Then dip it into the whisked eggs, making sure the cheese is well coated to help the breadcrumbs stick. Finally, cover the cheese in the breadcrumbs until fully coated. For extra security against melting out, double dip in the breadcrumbs for a thicker crust.
- Prepare for air frying: Lightly spritz both sides of the coated cheese rounds with olive oil spray. Arrange them in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they don’t touch or overlap. Work in batches if necessary.
- Air fry the cheese: Cook at 380°F (193°C) for 4-6 minutes. Flip the cheese halfway through cooking to ensure an even golden brown crust on all sides.
- Serve hot: Remove the crispy air fried Babybel cheese from the basket and serve immediately while warm and gooey inside.
Notes
- Freezing the cheese is essential to prevent it from melting too quickly and leaking out during cooking.
- Double coating with breadcrumbs helps to retain the cheese inside the crust.
- Use olive oil spray to get a crispy golden exterior without deep frying.
- Serve immediately for the best texture and melty cheese experience.
- If you don’t have Italian seasoned breadcrumbs, add Italian herbs like oregano and basil to plain breadcrumbs.
