Description

This TikTok-inspired egg boil recipe features perfectly boiled eggs simmered in a rich, flavorful butter garlic sauce infused with Old Bay seasoning, brown sugar, lemon pepper, paprika, and a hint of chili flakes. The eggs are boiled to your preferred level of doneness, peeled, and then bathed in a savory, slightly spicy broth that enhances their natural flavor. Garnished with fresh parsley and a squeeze of lemon, these flavorful eggs pair wonderfully with crusty bread or jasmine rice, making for an easy yet impressive dish.

Ingredients

Eggs

  • 6 eggs

Sauce

  • 1½ tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup garlic, minced
  • 2¼ teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 3 teaspoons light brown sugar
  • ½ heaping teaspoon onion powder
  • 1½ teaspoons lemon pepper seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½1 teaspoon red chili flakes, or to taste
  • ¾ cup chicken bone or vegetable broth, low sodium
  • ¼ lemon, juiced
  • Kosher salt, optional (preferably Diamond Crystal brand)

Garnish

  • Flat leaf parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ice Bath: Fill a bowl with cold water and enough ice cubes to create an icy bath. Set aside to cool the eggs quickly after boiling.
  2. Boil Eggs: In a medium saucepan, bring enough water to fully cover the eggs to a rolling boil. Carefully add 6 eggs to the boiling water. Boil for 7 minutes for runny yolks or 7½ minutes for more set yolks.
  3. Cool Eggs: Remove eggs from boiling water and immediately place them in the prepared ice bath. Leave submerged for at least 2 minutes or until cool enough to handle.
  4. Peel Eggs: Under slow running water, peel the eggs carefully to remove the shells. Place peeled eggs on paper towels to absorb any excess water and set aside.
  5. Make Sauce – Melt Butter & Garlic: Heat a large skillet over low flame and add 1½ tablespoons unsalted butter. Melt the butter gently without clarifying it. Add ¼ cup minced garlic and stir for 1 minute on low heat to infuse flavor.
  6. Add Seasonings: Add 2¼ teaspoons Old Bay seasoning, 3 teaspoons light brown sugar, ½ heaping teaspoon onion powder, 1½ teaspoons lemon pepper seasoning, 1 teaspoon paprika, and ½–1 teaspoon red chili flakes. Stir well and cook for 1 minute to release the spices’ aromas.
  7. Add Broth and Simmer: Pour in ¾ cup low sodium chicken bone or vegetable broth and increase heat to medium-high. Allow the mixture to cook for about 6 minutes, letting the sauce reduce and slightly thicken.
  8. Finish Sauce: Stir in juice of ¼ lemon and add a splash of water. Taste the sauce and season with kosher salt if necessary, keeping in mind that Old Bay and lemon pepper already contain salt.
  9. Assemble and Serve: Place the peeled boiled eggs in a serving bowl and pour the warm buttery sauce over them. Garnish with chopped flat leaf parsley. Serve the eggs as is or alongside crusty ciabatta bread or jasmine rice for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Boil eggs for exactly 7 minutes for runny yolks or 7½ minutes for more set yolks to suit your preference.
  • Using an ice bath immediately after boiling prevents overcooking and makes peeling easier.
  • Maintain low heat when melting butter to avoid clarifying or browning it.
  • Old Bay seasoning contains salt, so add extra salt cautiously.
  • If you prefer less heat, reduce or omit the red chili flakes.
  • This recipe works well with either chicken bone broth or vegetable broth depending on your dietary preference.
