Description

This Quick & Easy Mediterranean Steak Bowl is a vibrant, nutritious, and flavorful dish combining marinated sirloin steak, wholesome grains, fresh vegetables, and creamy tzatziki, topped with a zesty lemon vinaigrette. Perfect for a healthy weeknight dinner, it brings Mediterranean flair with simple ingredients and minimal prep.

Ingredients

For the Steak and Marinade

  • 1 lb sirloin steak about 1-inch thick
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

For the Bowl Base

  • 2 cups cooked grains (brown rice, quinoa, or cauliflower rice)
  • 1 cup roasted chickpeas (optional for paleo or keto)

For the Toppings

  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cucumber, diced
  • ½ red onion, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup kalamata olives, pitted
  • ⅓ cup feta cheese, crumbled (optional for dairy-free)
  • ¼ cup fresh herbs (parsley or dill), chopped

For the Tzatziki

  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (or coconut yogurt for dairy-free)
  • ½ cucumber, grated and squeezed dry
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Lemon Vinaigrette

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon honey (omit for Whole30)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, dried oregano, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Coat the sirloin steak thoroughly with this marinade and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 4 hours to allow flavors to meld.
  2. Prepare the Tzatziki: Mix together Greek yogurt, grated and squeezed cucumber, lemon juice, minced garlic, chopped fresh dill, and season with salt and pepper. Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
  3. Make the Lemon Vinaigrette: Whisk together olive oil, fresh lemon juice, honey (if using), minced garlic, dried oregano, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  4. Sear the Steak: Heat a skillet over high heat. Once hot, add the marinated steak and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or adjust timing to your preferred doneness. Remove from heat and let the steak rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
  5. Assemble the Bowl: In bowls, layer the cooked grains, sliced steak, and desired toppings including cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, kalamata olives, feta cheese, and fresh herbs. Drizzle generously with tzatziki and lemon vinaigrette before serving.

Notes

  • Nutrition information is an approximation and should be used as a guideline only.
  • For a paleo or keto variation, omit grains and use roasted chickpeas or cauliflower rice.
  • To make this dish dairy-free, substitute feta with a vegan cheese option and use coconut yogurt for the tzatziki.
  • Marinating the steak longer will deepen the flavor and tenderize the meat more effectively.
  • Adjust seasoning and lemon vinaigrette quantities according to taste preference.
