Description

Maple Brown Sugar Cookies are a sweet, soft, and chewy treat that perfectly captures the flavors of fall. With the rich sweetness of brown sugar and the warm, comforting taste of maple syrup, these cookies are an irresistible combination. The addition of a touch of cinnamon makes them even more cozy and flavorful.

Ingredients

For the Cookies:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup maple syrup (preferably pure maple syrup)

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Topping (optional):

1/4 cup granulated sugar (for rolling the dough balls)

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional for extra flavor)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat for easy cleanup.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. Cream the Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar together using an electric mixer or hand whisk until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix until fully incorporated.
  4. Add the Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the maple syrup until the dough is smooth and all ingredients are well incorporated.
  5. Shape the Dough: In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and cinnamon for rolling the cookies. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls (about 1 tablespoon of dough per cookie). Roll each ball in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated. Place the dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake the Cookies: Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the centers are set. The cookies will continue to firm up as they cool. Remove from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Serve: Enjoy your warm, chewy maple brown sugar cookies with a glass of milk or your favorite warm beverage!

Notes

Add chopped walnuts or pecans for extra crunch and flavor.

Drizzle a little extra maple syrup over the cookies once they’re cooled for an added touch of sweetness.

Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top of the cookies before baking for a sweet and salty contrast.
