Description
Ground Beef Lettuce Wraps are a healthy and delicious low-carb meal that combines savory ground beef with fresh vegetables and vibrant seasonings, all wrapped in crisp lettuce. Perfect for a light yet filling meal, these wraps are customizable and gluten-free.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (80% lean works best for flavor)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon soy sauce (or coconut aminos for a gluten-free version)
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce (optional for sweetness)
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 teaspoon ginger, grated
1/2 teaspoon chili flakes or sriracha (optional for heat)
Salt and pepper to taste
1 head of butter lettuce, Romaine, or iceberg lettuce (for wrapping)
1/4 cup shredded carrots (optional for crunch)
Fresh cilantro (optional for garnish)
Lime wedges (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook the beef: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked (about 6-8 minutes). Drain any excess fat.
- Sauté the aromatics: Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the cooked beef. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the onion softens and becomes translucent.
- Season the beef: Stir in soy sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), rice vinegar, grated ginger, and chili flakes or sriracha (if desired). Cook for another 1-2 minutes to combine the flavors. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
- Prepare the lettuce: Separate lettuce leaves carefully, rinse, and dry them thoroughly with a paper towel or salad spinner.
- Assemble the wraps: Spoon the cooked beef mixture into the center of each lettuce leaf. Top with shredded carrots, fresh cilantro, and a squeeze of lime juice if desired.
- Serve: Serve the lettuce wraps immediately with additional lime wedges on the side.
Notes
For a leaner version, substitute ground turkey or chicken for ground beef.
To make them spicier, add more sriracha or chili flakes to the beef mixture.
If preparing ahead, store the beef mixture in the fridge for up to 3 days and assemble the wraps just before serving.
Frozen beef filling can be stored for 2-3 months. Reheat before serving.
Add crushed peanuts or cashews for an extra crunchy topping.
