Description
Soft, buttery dinner rolls infused with aromatic garlic and fresh herbs. These rolls are light, fluffy, and perfect for pairing with soups, salads, or main courses.
Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry or instant yeast (1 packet)
1 cup warm milk or water (about 110°F/43°C)
2 tablespoons granulated sugar or honey
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (plus 2 tablespoons melted for brushing)
1 teaspoon salt
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs (parsley, chives, rosemary, thyme)
1 egg (optional for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk or water with yeast and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and softened butter. Knead for 8–10 minutes by hand or 5–6 minutes in a mixer until smooth and elastic.
- Form dough into a ball and place in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Punch down dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape into balls and place on a greased baking dish or lined sheet, spaced slightly apart.
- Cover and let rise again until nearly doubled, 30–45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush tops with egg wash if using.
- Bake rolls for 18–22 minutes, until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- Mix melted butter with minced garlic and chopped herbs. Brush over warm rolls immediately after baking. Serve warm.

Add shredded cheese like Parmesan into the dough or on top before baking.
Use herbs like oregano, basil, or dill for different flavor profiles.
Make vegan with plant-based milk and butter and skip the egg wash.
