Description
Crispy, golden, and savory, Fried Mushrooms are a delicious snack, appetizer, or side dish. The mushrooms are battered and fried to perfection, creating a crispy outer coating while keeping the inside tender and juicy.
Ingredients
1 lb fresh mushrooms (button, cremini, or your choice)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 large egg
1/2 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)
1 cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)
Vegetable oil (for frying)
Optional: 1/2 cup ranch dressing and 1 tbsp hot sauce for dipping
Instructions
- Clean the mushrooms using a damp cloth. Remove stems if desired and cut larger mushrooms into halves or quarters.
- In separate shallow bowls, prepare the flour mixture (flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper), egg wash (egg and buttermilk), and breadcrumbs.
- Dip each mushroom into the flour, then egg wash, and finally coat in breadcrumbs. Press gently to ensure even coating.
- Heat 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, fry mushrooms in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with dipping sauce of your choice.
Notes
Add cayenne or chili powder to the flour for a spicy kick.
Use gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs for a gluten-free option.
Try stuffing mushrooms with cheese before breading for a cheesy version.
Air fryer can be used to reheat for extra crispiness.
