Description

Crispy, golden, and savory, Fried Mushrooms are a delicious snack, appetizer, or side dish. The mushrooms are battered and fried to perfection, creating a crispy outer coating while keeping the inside tender and juicy.

Ingredients

1 lb fresh mushrooms (button, cremini, or your choice)

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp paprika (optional)

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 large egg

1/2 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)

1 cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)

Vegetable oil (for frying)

Optional: 1/2 cup ranch dressing and 1 tbsp hot sauce for dipping

Instructions

  1. Clean the mushrooms using a damp cloth. Remove stems if desired and cut larger mushrooms into halves or quarters.
  2. In separate shallow bowls, prepare the flour mixture (flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper), egg wash (egg and buttermilk), and breadcrumbs.
  3. Dip each mushroom into the flour, then egg wash, and finally coat in breadcrumbs. Press gently to ensure even coating.
  4. Heat 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, fry mushrooms in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  6. Serve hot with dipping sauce of your choice.

Notes

Add cayenne or chili powder to the flour for a spicy kick.

Use gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs for a gluten-free option.

Try stuffing mushrooms with cheese before breading for a cheesy version.

Air fryer can be used to reheat for extra crispiness.
