Description

These Tuna Melt Patties are a crispy and melty twist on the classic tuna melt sandwich, combining canned tuna, cheddar cheese, and breadcrumbs into perfectly golden, flavorful patties. Quick to prepare and cook, they make a satisfying meal served on toasted bread or with a fresh salad, perfect for a budget-friendly lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Tuna Patties

  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna, drained
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (or Swiss)
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tuna Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the drained tuna, breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, egg, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything well until the ingredients are fully incorporated and the mixture holds together.
  2. Add Cheese & Shape Patties: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped green onions. Once combined, form the mixture into 4 to 5 evenly sized patties, shaping them carefully so they hold their form during cooking.
  3. Cook the Patties: Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook each side for 3 to 4 minutes until the outside is golden brown and crispy, and the patties are heated through.
  4. Serve & Enjoy: Serve the patties on toasted bread, English muffins, or alongside a fresh salad. For an extra cheesy finish, top each patty with additional cheese and place under the broiler for about one minute until melted and bubbly.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, use panko breadcrumbs instead of regular breadcrumbs.
  • If the mixture feels too wet to form patties, add a little more breadcrumbs to firm it up.
  • If the mixture is too dry, add a teaspoon of mayonnaise to add moisture.
  • Try using different cheeses such as Swiss, mozzarella, or Pepper Jack for unique flavor variations.
