Description
Classic Christmas Toffee is a simple, buttery treat made by baking a crunchy layer of toffee, then coating it with melted chocolate and a sprinkle of crushed nuts. It’s the perfect holiday gift or festive snack, rich, sweet, and incredibly addictive.
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons water
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts (almonds, pecans, or walnuts)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in the granulated sugar, water, and salt. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring constantly.
- Cook the mixture for about 10 minutes, until it reaches a deep golden brown color (around 300°F/150°C on a candy thermometer).
- Once the toffee reaches the right color, remove it from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Immediately pour the toffee mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it out evenly.
- Sprinkle the semisweet chocolate chips over the warm toffee and let them sit for 1-2 minutes to melt. Then, spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee with a spatula.
- While the chocolate is still soft, sprinkle the chopped nuts on top and gently press them into the chocolate.
- Let the toffee cool at room temperature for 1-2 hours until the chocolate is set and the toffee is firm. Break the toffee into pieces once it’s cooled completely.
Notes
Use milk or white chocolate chips for a sweeter variation.
Add a pinch of sea salt on top of the chocolate for a sweet-and-salty flavor.
Experiment with different nuts like pecans, hazelnuts, or pistachios.
Drizzle with caramel or add festive sprinkles for extra flair.
