Description

Classic Christmas Toffee is a simple, buttery treat made by baking a crunchy layer of toffee, then coating it with melted chocolate and a sprinkle of crushed nuts. It’s the perfect holiday gift or festive snack, rich, sweet, and incredibly addictive.

Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

2 tablespoons water

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped nuts (almonds, pecans, or walnuts)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in the granulated sugar, water, and salt. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring constantly.
  3. Cook the mixture for about 10 minutes, until it reaches a deep golden brown color (around 300°F/150°C on a candy thermometer).
  4. Once the toffee reaches the right color, remove it from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Immediately pour the toffee mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it out evenly.
  6. Sprinkle the semisweet chocolate chips over the warm toffee and let them sit for 1-2 minutes to melt. Then, spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee with a spatula.
  7. While the chocolate is still soft, sprinkle the chopped nuts on top and gently press them into the chocolate.
  8. Let the toffee cool at room temperature for 1-2 hours until the chocolate is set and the toffee is firm. Break the toffee into pieces once it’s cooled completely.

Notes

Use milk or white chocolate chips for a sweeter variation.

Add a pinch of sea salt on top of the chocolate for a sweet-and-salty flavor.

Experiment with different nuts like pecans, hazelnuts, or pistachios.

Drizzle with caramel or add festive sprinkles for extra flair.
