Description
Cinnamon Roll French Toast combines the warm, comforting flavors of a cinnamon roll with the classic richness of French toast. This indulgent breakfast dish features thick slices of cinnamon rolls soaked in a cinnamon-spiced egg mixture, then cooked to golden perfection and drizzled with a sweet glaze. It’s a perfect treat for a special breakfast or brunch that will have everyone asking for seconds!
Ingredients
4 cinnamon rolls (store-bought or homemade)
2 large eggs
½ cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon butter (for cooking)
½ cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons milk (dairy or plant-based)
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the cinnamon rolls: Slice each cinnamon roll into 4 thick slices. If using store-bought cinnamon rolls, you can warm them slightly to make them easier to cut.
- Make the custard mixture: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and sugar until well combined.
- Soak the cinnamon rolls: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt the butter. Dip each cinnamon roll slice into the custard mixture, ensuring both sides are coated. Let the slices soak for a few seconds, but don’t let them get too soggy.
- Cook the French toast: Place the soaked cinnamon roll slices on the heated skillet or griddle. Cook each side for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Make sure the cinnamon rolls are heated through and slightly crispy on the outside.
- Make the glaze: While the French toast is cooking, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if necessary.
- Serve: Once the cinnamon roll French toast is cooked, drizzle with the glaze and serve hot. You can also top it with fresh fruit, whipped cream, or a dusting of powdered sugar for extra sweetness.
Notes
For an extra indulgent breakfast, drizzle maple syrup on top of the glaze.
If you prefer a vegan version, use plant-based cinnamon rolls, almond or oat milk, and a vegan butter substitute.
Day-old cinnamon rolls work great for this recipe as they hold their shape better and soak up the custard mixture nicely.
To make the French toast extra crispy, cook it on medium-low heat to allow the outside to crisp without burning the cinnamon roll inside.
