Description

Ingredients

For the Brioche Dough:

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup whole milk, lukewarm

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 large eggs

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Vanilla Custard Filling:

1/2 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup granulated sugar

3 large egg yolks

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Chip Filling:

1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

For the Topping:

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)


Instructions

  1. Prepare the Brioche Dough: In a small bowl, combine the lukewarm milk, yeast, and sugar. Stir to dissolve, and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, eggs, butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Mix everything together until a sticky dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for about 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Make the Vanilla Custard Filling: In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, heavy cream, and sugar. Heat over medium heat until it begins to steam (do not let it boil).
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks and cornstarch together until smooth.
  7. Once the milk mixture is steaming, slowly pour it into the egg mixture while whisking constantly to temper the eggs.
