Description

Chinese Ground Beef and Cabbage Stir Fry is a quick and easy one-pan meal made with savory ground beef, tender cabbage, and bell peppers, all tossed in a flavorful soy-ginger garlic sauce. It’s a protein- and veggie-packed dish perfect for busy weeknights or meal prep.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 or leaner)

1 medium head of cabbage, shredded

1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated (or 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger)

2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce (optional)

1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Green onions, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Shred the cabbage and thinly slice the bell pepper and onion. Mince garlic and grate fresh ginger.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add garlic and ginger to the beef and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add onion, bell pepper, and cabbage to the pan. Stir and cook for 5-7 minutes until cabbage softens but remains slightly crisp.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil.
  6. Pour the sauce into the pan and mix well to coat. Let simmer for 2-3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve as is or over rice/noodles.

Notes

Add more veggies like carrots, mushrooms, or snow peas for variety.

Make it spicy with chili flakes or chili paste.

Use tamari and omit oyster sauce for a gluten-free version.

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.

Serve over rice or noodles for a heartier meal.
