Description

Biscuits and Gravy Casserole is the ultimate comfort food, combining layers of fluffy biscuits, savory sausage gravy, and melted cheese for a rich, satisfying breakfast or brunch dish. Easy to make and perfect for feeding a crowd, this casserole offers all the flavors of classic biscuits and gravy in one convenient, hearty dish. Whether you’re hosting a special brunch or looking for a filling family meal, this casserole is sure to please!

Ingredients

1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough (or homemade biscuits)

1 lb (450g) breakfast sausage (mild or spicy, based on preference)

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 cups milk (whole milk works best)

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for topping)

1/4 cup fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and cut the biscuit dough into quarters. Set the biscuit pieces aside.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat, breaking it up into crumbles. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the sausage is browned and fully cooked through. Remove from the pot and set aside.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage, stirring to coat the meat evenly. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, for 5-7 minutes until the gravy thickens. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  4. Place the biscuit pieces evenly in the bottom of the greased baking dish. Pour the sausage gravy over the biscuits, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top (if using).
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuits are cooked through, and the casserole is bubbly and golden on top. If desired, broil the casserole for 1-2 minutes at the end to get the cheese extra crispy.
  6. Remove from the oven and let the casserole cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve hot.

Notes

For a lighter version, use reduced-fat cream cheese and replace the heavy cream with half-and-half or a lower-fat milk alternative.

If you prefer a spicier casserole, use spicy sausage or add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the gravy.

For a vegetarian option, swap the breakfast sausage with a plant-based sausage or mushrooms and bell peppers.

Can be made ahead of time—assemble the casserole the night before and refrigerate overnight. Bake as directed in the morning.
