Description
Baked Goat Cheese Balls are crisp on the outside and creamy inside, featuring tangy goat cheese with optional herbs and sweetness, coated in breadcrumbs and baked to golden perfection. They’re ideal as a sophisticated appetizer or cozy snack.
Ingredients
8 oz (225 g) goat cheese, softened
2 tablespoons plain yogurt or cream cheese (optional)
1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh herbs (e.g., thyme or chives)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
2 tablespoons flour (for dredging)
1 egg, beaten
½ cup breadcrumbs (panko or fine)
¼ cup finely chopped nuts (e.g., almonds or pecans, optional)
Cooking spray or olive oil for brushing
Optional garnishes: fresh herbs, fruit preserves, honey drizzle, crusty bread
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix goat cheese with yogurt (if using), honey (if using), herbs, salt, and pepper until smooth and combined.
- Scoop 1–2 tablespoons of the cheese mixture and roll into balls. Chill for 10 minutes.
- Roll each ball in flour, dip in beaten egg, and coat in breadcrumbs mixed with nuts (if using). Press gently to help coating stick.
- Place balls on prepared sheet, spray or brush lightly with oil, and bake for 10–12 minutes until golden and crisp.
- Cool slightly before garnishing or serving warm with dips or bread.
Notes
Add garlic or sundried tomato to the cheese for extra flavor.
Use crushed crackers or seasoned panko for the coating.
Sprinkle spices like paprika, lemon zest, or seasoning blends for flair.
Serve with sweet or savory accompaniments like fig jam or pesto.
Reheat in oven or air fryer to maintain crisp texture.
